Swap FAQ

General Selling Questions

How do I register my items online prior to drop off?

Yes, you can register your sale items here. Complete the form to register your items before dropping them off!

How do I know what to price my items at?

If you are unsure what the selling price should be on a particular item, no problem! Input the item for $1.00 and when you drop-off your items in person, MTNside can help you finalize your prices and update your registration.

How do I get paid if my items sell?

During the registration process you'll be asked to choose a pay-out method. Option #1 is COW CARD (Wachusett's in-house cash card) with a split of 90% to you and 10% to the Swap. Option #2 is by check, with a 70%/30% split.

If you choose the COW card option, you will be issued a COW card at registration. Final totals for sold items will be loaded on to your COW card 3 days after the completion of SWAP (10/17/2025)

Checks will be processed 14 days from the completion of the SWAP (10/29/25)

How do I know if my items are sold during the sale?

On the Swap item registration page, you may check on the status of your items using the name on the Swap check-in form provided during drop-off. If there is a date associated with the item, it means your item has sold. No listed date means that item is not sold yet.

Can I reduce the price of my items during the sale?

It is wise to put your best price forward. For your protection, prices reductions must be done in person, and require a photo ID matching the seller's information.

How can I pick up my items if they do not sell?

Pick up for non-selling items is only during specific times.

ONE DAY ONLY: Pick up is on Tuesday 10/14 from 9:30 AM to 7pm

All items left after this time will be donated to various charities. Picking up unsold items is allowed on Sunday and Monday during the sale, we’ll ask you for an ID and your original “check-in” form.

Accepted Swap Items: Dos & Don'ts

It's OK to register the following items!

Alpine Skis

The more current the better, adults and kids, with bindings or without. 10–12-year-old skis historically don’t hold much value, and in many cases, have “non-indemnified” bindings. We check every alpine binding that we register for age and usefulness.

Have older skis with bindings that would probably fall into the “non-indemnified” category, can’t be registered for sale, and that you want out of your basement? We can help you donate them to SKICHAIR.com, where they will enjoy a second life and stay out of the landfill. So bring them to Swap and we’ll direct you to the Ski Chair receptacle!

Telemark and Touring skis

Nordic or XC Skis

Only more modern versions can come to Swap. Nothing with a 3pin 75mm binding will be accepted.

Snowboards

The more current the better. Ok with or without bindings. Inspect them for damage before leaving home, Decks with broken edges, delaminations, and top skin breakage will not be accepted.

Snowboard bindings

Individual pairs of SB binding and off a board are only accepted when pairs are zip tied together and all parts (discs and screws, washers) are present.

Alpine boots

Boots with sellable, wearable liners.

Note: Older rear entry boots that are 12-15 years old historically don’t hold any value. Boots with excessively worn soles or modified race soles cannot be accepted. We check the soles on each pair as they are registered.

Telemark and Touring Specific boots

Snowboard boots

Boots with sellable, wearable liners. Laces and BOA systems must all be intact. Liners with tears, mold, or have been invaded by rodents can be not registered.

Snowshoes

We will only accept aluminum modern shoes in a useable condition. These are strong sellers!

Helmets

Undamaged helmets with sellable, wearable liners only

Poles

Must be in pairs with baskets

Outdoor Sports Bags

We will accept ski bags, boots bags, cargo bags, ski tubes, and hiking backpacks. Bags must be in a clean, solid useable condition.

Clothing Guidelines

Total Clothing is limited to eight garments per household, so choose your best sellers.

Clean, sellable winter jackets and pants that you would wear on your day at the mountain. Insulators, winter fleece tops, and pants.

Matching jackets and pants need to be registered and sold separately as jackets and pants will be separated and hung on different racks in our clothing section.

NO dress or casual clothing, sports logos jackets (Patriots, Celtics, etc.) .. See the NOT OK to bring details.

NOT OK to bring to swap

Damaged or Unsellable anything. If you wouldn’t wear it, or put it on your feet, then don’t bring it to SWAP. Dirty, stained parkas and pants should stay at home.

Total Clothing is limited to eight garments per household, so choose your best sellers.

Small clothing accessories such as: thermal underwear, gloves, goggles, used socks, beanie caps, cannot be accepted. See the “Bring it and Leave it” section below.

Boot Liners that have been invaded by rodents (boots make great mouse houses)

Equipment and gear such as: car racks, skates, hockey or non-winter sports equipment, old 75 mm pin xc boots, bamboo xc poles, wooden snowshoes, wooden skis, skis over 15 years old, etc.

Fur Jackets, leather jackets, sports logos jackets (Patriots, Celtics, etc.), dress jackets, dress sweaters, casual clothing and sportwear, winter walking boots (i.e. Bean boots), etc.

Racing hand guards, racing jaw and shin guards, alpine bindings in boxes, etc., tend to get handled by hundreds of guests and parts tend to disappear and we cannot guarantee they will remain intact, and once they are no longer intact, they will not sell, and not come back to you in their original form.

How to get rid of Non-Accepted Items: Bring it and Leave it with us

If you have items that you just want to get out of your house, we offer a drop-off box for gloves, goggles, hats, and other small items that we don’t accept into Swap. We don’t register these or offer them for sale, we just offer a venue to help you get rid of them. It's as easy as dropping off your usable accessory items in the box and walking away!

How much stuff can I bring?

Certainly not a pickup truck load. This is a local community event, and any large quantities presented for registration move you into the “dealer” category with different logistics, different payment splits and different understandings.

Registering items with larger quantities than listed here are cause for discussion: 8+ pairs of boots, 8+ pairs of skis, 6+ snowboards, etc. If you think you’ll be at those levels, you’ll need to email mike@wachusett.com and discuss your situation two to three days before you plan to arrive with your gear.

Clothing is limited to eight garments per household, so choose your best sellers.

We reserve the right to deny entry to any item or groups of items.

Additional Sale Questions

Can I sell alpine bindings not attached to skis?

No, Alpine bindings in boxes or not mounted to skis. Historically these have not sold well, parts have gone missing. So if your alpine binding is not mounted on a ski, it will not be accepted.

Can I sell snowboard bindings not attached to a board?

Yes, individual pairs of SB binding, off a board, can be accepted only when pair are zip tied together and all parts (discs and screws, washers) are present and placed in a secure Ziplock type bag Important See note at the end of the page.

What does non-indemnified mean?

Many older alpine binding models are deemed “non-indemnified” by the individual binding manufacturers. Each manufacturer has created a list of bindings that ski shops are not allowed to adjust, function test, or mount due to age.

Any binding not on the current “indemnified” list is considered “non-indemnified” and cannot not be allowed into the swap. Most of these models are 8-10-12 years and older. We will check all bindings upon registration against our list.

Can I have skis adjusted or tuned up at the sale?

Yes, we offer full mounting, adjusting, and tuning services during Swap for items sold. MTNside shop is tuning and adjusting your already owned gear as well throughout the sale.

Can I get a snowboard binding adjusted during the sale?

Yes, we offer snowboard mounting services at SWAP.

Can I still drop off items once the sale has started?

Yes, in addition the Tuesday and Wednesday early drop off hours, we accept items to sell in the Swap up until Monday 10/13 at 1:00pm

Can I bring my dogs and pets into the sale?

Bring Fido along, but they must stay outside! This is one of the only weekends we welcome dogs on the lawn. Please note: all pups must be leashed, and only certified service dogs can enter the building.

Will there be food available during the sale?

Yes, a variety of food options will be available out on the lawn. Don't worry, we know you need to regain your energy after all that shopping.

What is there to do for my family while I’m shopping?

The base area will offer music, skyrides and family activities during Saturday, Sunday, and Monday of the sale!

Can I get advice on sizing and models at the sale?

We employ additional staff members from the Wachusett Mountain community to help at the Swap. Mostly Instructors and patrollers who help fill out our sale staff, so they are willing help and are very enthusiastic! Their knowledge may not be as extensive as a MTNside staff member, so it’s your job to do your homework prior to purchase and our team will do their best to give you correct sizing and guidance.

Can I purchase this season's gear and clothing during the sale?

Yes, our retail store MTNside Ski & Ride will be open all the same hours as the Swap. Inside the store, we are stocked full of this season's models and colors and staffed with our veteran crew to help you find what you need!

Important Note

Swap is a high volume, high traffic event. We endeavor to maintain the integrity and security of the items which you register for sale. We will work to track your items, but we rely on you to tag the correct items with the correct tag and securely affix tags on your own items.

You enter your items into this event at your own risk, knowing that this is a temporary venue, staffed by temporary employees, and that Wachusett/ MTNside is not responsible for lost and unsold items. If you are not comfortable leaving your items under these conditions, then consider withdrawing your registration.

Good luck at the Swap!
